What Do You Call This Kind of Lettering ?

Postby IRISH CRAIG » Fri Jan 30, 2015 5:42 am

A couple of pals of mine are trying to trace the origins of the Olde English type of lettering that people used to get printed on their shirts and hats etc way back.

There is evidently a deep history of these letters and designs, and evidently a number of variations on the theme, but very little information about them to be shared anywhere; in person or otherwise, even with older heads.

What did YOU call it, d'you own a shirt/ hat/ sweatshirt, and if so, how did they get made, and by whom ?

Any help appreciated

I dont know if you want the actual true origins of this but I could find out if you do as I work pt time in print and design and coincidentally just yesterday using our resource books my boss showed me the origins of Futura which dates to 1927 I think it was.
I was thinking of Futura 2000 and it got me thinking how old the Futura font is. :D
