(Sorry, I know there have been numerous similar threads in the past few years, but I'm curious to hear from some of our newer members)

List your favorite 3 Old School
(Older than 1986 implied) Hip Hop Records...

In other words, if your collection was on fire, and you had only enough time to save 3 records, which ones would you rescue? (12", LP, 7" fine, as long as it's Old School Hip Hop)

Why older than 1986? Damn... almost all of the stuff i would grab would be from 1986. No fair! LOL

anyway, if it HAS to be pre-86 i would grab :

B-Boys - Girls
Live Convention 81-82
Run-DMC - Together Forever 12" (live @ Hollis Park)

(and if i could sneak one more record... it would be Adventures of GMF on the wheels of steel 12")

This is easy

Rappers Delight
The Message
Planet Rock

Those are probably the same records I would pick if it was all records from any time period.

I'm going with "the records that I think I won't be able to replace as easily as the others":

Feel The Heartbeat - Treacherous Three
Rapper's Delight (red label) - Sugarhill Gang
We Rap More Mellow - The Younger Generation

Yeah, I'd grab the hard to replace ones if my collection was on fire. Certain records you can always find cheap.

These are ones I'd choose on a whim...

Trickeration - Rap, Bounce, Rockskate (12") 1980 (Sound of New York, USA)

Image

DJ Watkins and Crew - Jealousy (12") 1985 (Diskmakers Test Pressing)

NYC Cutter (Marley Marl) - DJ Cuttin (12") 1985 (Pop Art Records)

I'm gonna stay with the majority here, and save a record nobody ever seemed to remember:

Rhymin' and Rappin'

then I would go with "Rappin' and Rockin' the House" my personal favorite of all time, and 'Super Rappin"...

I only ever found 1 copy of this ever. And it was cracked.

I still bought it knowing i'd probably never find another copy for a loooooooong time anyway.

*sigh* Thank God for Mp3's

I remember back before the internet I finally found a smerphies dance in a fly by night junk store.

The only one I had ever seen!

When I got it home I realized it had a warp in it. So for some inexplicable reason I tried to bend it back into shape with my hands, and it burst into a million pieces!

Delicate oldschool vinyl I guess.

The only thing left was the center label, which I still have.

But many years later I would eventually own a beautiful and pristene promo copy.

Its funny how certain records would just be so rare in certain areas back in the day. I'll bet Smerphies dance records were cluttering the streets back east.

Thank goodness for the intertubes.
